Adler Votes To Create Jobs, Reinvigorate The American Economy

Press Release

Date: June 29, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Adler today voted in support of the bipartisan American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, legislation that will create 48,000 jobs in New Jersey and save taxpayers money on their monthly energy bill. All Southern New Jersey members voted in support of the legislation.

"We need to create jobs in New Jersey," Congressman Adler said. "Our middle class families already pay too much in taxes, pay too much to fill up their gas tank, and pay too much on their utility bills. This initiative will lower energy costs and create new jobs for New Jersey families and small businesses."Congressman Adler continued, "This bill will make America safer. It is time that we stop sending money to Middle Eastern countries that fund terrorist activities. Furthermore, by preserving God's earth, our children and grandchildren can continue to fish, enjoy the outdoors and breathe clean air."

Impact of Energy Bill on New Jersey Families and Small Businesses

Some examples of how the American Clean Energy and Security Act will create jobs for New Jersey residents, include:

Constructing wind farms creates jobs for sheet metal workers, machinists, and truck drivers.

Increasing buildings' energy efficiency through retrofitting requires roofers, insulators, and building inspectors.

Expanding mass transit systems employs civil engineers, electricians, and dispatchers.

New Jersey is a winner in this proposal. In New Jersey, monthly electricity bills will decrease by an average of $6.28 a month due to energy-efficiency and consumer protection provisions.

This historic legislation will create a system of clean energy incentives that will spur the development of new sources of energy while confronting the threat of carbon pollution. These incentives will lead to innovations that will, in turn, create millions of good, new jobs and ensure America will continue to lead in the 21st century global economy.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the legislation results in a net $24 billion reduction in the federal budget deficit.
New Jersey could see a net increase of about $4.6 billion in investment revenue and 48,000 jobs.
